You never know what the Lites class is going to offer when you head north to Canada for Monster Energy Supercross. Since there are no AMA points awarded, the top Lites contenders usually seize the opportunity for a weekend off, opening up the podium to some new faces.

Shaun Skinner took the Lites win in Canada.

The DNA Energy Drink/BTO Sports/Rick Case Honda/BBMX team saw this as a golden opportunity to not only give their Lites team riders some valuable experience and their sponsors some added exposure, but just maybe they would also be able to add a win to their resume.

After the qualifiers, it definitely appeared to be a promising night for the Florida-based team as BBMX teammates Matt Boni and Kyle Cunningham split heat-race wins, with Kyle Keylon and Shaun Skinner making the cut as well.

At the drop of the gate in the main, it was Team DNA Energy Drink leading the way, the #56 of Skinner out front with Boni and Cunningham in tow. Cunningham looked to be the fastest rider on the track, but he bobbled while attempting a pass on Skinner, hit a Tuff Block and went down, falling back to 15th.

With the track quickly deteriorating, Stuart, Florida’s Shaun Skinner rode a very cautious yet consistent 15 laps to take the main-event win, the biggest of his young career. Cunningham put on a valiant charge up through the pack and made it to third place behind Boni, who finished third in Daytona, making for an all-Honda, all-BBMX podium and a very worthwhile trip to Canada. Congratulations, guys.
